Officer Like Qualities: Do you have it in you?
Many students after being not recommended say “Pata Nahi Kya Dekhte Hai” so here is the answer- OLQs. SSB boards are looking for 15 OLQs in you. OLQ stands for Officer Like Qualities. The SSB Interview is intended to judge the mental caliber, attitude and outlook of the candidate along with his leadership qualities and character traits and if you want to combine all these under one name then they are called OLQs.
Once the candidates are done with their Screening In process their performance through various tests will be tested on their Officer Like Qualities (OLQ’s). All that you want to know about Screening IN phase in SSB
How to clear Screening In(Phase-1)?
Generally the candidates who are appearing for the SSB for
the 1st time usually pay more attention on “Screening In” because the candidates are
more worried that they should not be sent back on the very first day. So
firstly remove the fear from your mind that Screening In is very difficult to
clear. Now before understanding that how to clear Screening In one should
understand the whole process first. If you know the process please see Points to keep in mind in the end of post.
Screening Process
Screening In process includes two tests – OIR test and PPDT.
Officer
Intelligence Rating Test :-
It is a very simple test of aptitude and for clearing it one
has to achieve only 50% marks. Candidates are provided with two test booklets
containing 60-60 questions. There is no negative marking so attempt all
questions.
Picture Perception
Discussion Test(PPDT)
In this test candidates are shown a hazy picture and they
are asked to write a story around the picture. Below is the format of PPDT
sheet where candidate has to write a story and various details about the
picture.
The box is a replica of the screen on which picture was
shown and is for writing the details of the various characters candidates were
able to locate. Mark the characters with a black dot in the same place you
found them on the screen. Encircle the central character of your story from the
picture in the box . Following are the details candidates should write before
writing story in the square box provided on the sheet:-
Sex - Male, Female & Person
Mood – Positive, Negative & Neutral
Age – Try to choose same age group as yours
After writing the details candidate has to write “Action” of
the story. The action is the action you saw being performed by the central
character of the story.
Time duration (To record the details of the picture) – 1
minute
Writing the story – Idea behind writing a good story is that
it should be a story linked with some positive theme. Try to write a story
which includes a change for the betterment of the society or any individual’s
life.
Time duration – 4 minutes
Discussion for
story
Now candidates are divided in the groups of 12 to 18
students for discussion part of the PPDT. You will find three assessors in the
room. After the candidates have taken the seats one assessor will pass the
instructions for discussion. Candidates are allowed to narrate their own story
for one minute and thereafter the discussion will take place. The discussion is
for allowing the group members to come to a common consensus or a common story.
Time duration- 30 sec to 1 minute for individual narration
Time duration – 15 to 20 minutes for group discussion
Points to keep in mind:-
To get recommended for the next phase candidates needs to
get recommended in the discussion by any two out of three assessors while
he/she was in group discussion room. Screening In is itself a mini SSB and a
candidates is judged by a Psychologist, a GTO and a Interviewing officer so he
needs to perform in all three traits i.e. “ MANSA(Psych) VACHA(Interviewer) &
KARMA(GTO) “.
- · Write a nicely structured innovative and positive story first to get your first YES from the psychologist. Central character should be a grown up not a child .Write age of central character same as yours. You can even write some positive feeling with +ve mood like pursuing goal, obeying orders etc. While writing the story follow the rules being told by psychologist while giving out the instructions i.e.
- What brought you to this situation?
- What is happening in the picture?
- What are the future outcomes?
- · Be very crisp in your individual narration. If possible use a powerful quotation in the end or in the beginning of your narration. Remain very expressive in your narration and nobody can stop you from getting a YES from interviewing officer.
- · As far as GTO is concern participate in GD well. Take initiative and speak first. well this is possible only for the freshers group because repeaters are all champions of discussion. Do not become a part of hustle if happening in room while GD. Show your OLQ and try to control the situation be a moderator. A very important thing is do not have a fatherly feeling towards your story , if your story is selected then develop it but if not then go with the flow and add something constructive to the story theme chosen by the group. This will surely help you to get another YES from GTO.
